Asymmetry

The asymmetrical layout of our rotary valve instrument promotes a more natural playing feel while still providing good control over the instrument.

The different configurations of the airflows promote the formation of sound waves without compromising the pleasant blowing resistance of the instrument.

The result is a responsive feel combined with controlled playing characteristics.

This concept is based on the work of Prof. Roger Grundmann (Dresden University of Technology, Department of Aerospace Engineering).

He studied this principle in French horns and bassoons and was able to demonstrate its effect (abstract here;

in-depth article here).

Based on these findings, we developed our asymmetrical rotary valve machine and applied the principle to our instruments.
